Oliver: Living with Alzheimer’s takes patience, persistence and detective skills

Living with my mother’s dementia was like living in a carnival fun house. Things often were not as they appeared, sometimes distorted by my mother’s perception of her reality.

It required a lot of patience, and I often struggled with feelings of frustration and inadequacy. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t make my mother’s condition any easier for her – or for me, for that matter.
